SANDBOX
As we welcomed our members returning from their summer holidays and time off the sand, the intent of todays drive was to familiarize ourselves with the driving techniques and disciplines off-roading in the desert, in preparation for the start of the season now on the horizon.
Revisiting old training grounds, we started with a technical warm up navigating firm sands and vegetation utilizing full travel of our suspension set ups. Chatter on the radio by a convoy in the area caused for a brief stop to change frequency.
Now with lines of communication clear and softer sands underfoot we picked up the pace and gained altitude. Our sweeper Sven quickly jumped into action overseeing a straight crest self-recovery.
Time for a break and make the most of our vantage spot overlooking the desert landscape to see where we had come and where to next. Lower than normal air temperatures and a slight breeze made for an ideal climate to enjoy each other’s company over a cup of Karak, discuss trip events and get excited for the season ahead.
Time to move on and with all drivers on point we increased the driving level and picked up the pace Baja style! skirting over the bumps and jumps whilst covering large amounts of ground. The team lapped it up literally! with a few passes over big red completed in minutes. A self recovery for myself (thank you crawl control) briefly stopped the flow before picking it up again carving out our lines towards the next waypoint.
Time for another pit stop at the iconic Chefs bowl, a special place for all who have completed the desert fella training before another blast on the pedal towards the exit, wrapping up the drive 15 minutes ahead of schedule.
Thank you all for a great drive and to Sven and Marshall Mark for the support, with smiles it was a blast!
See you on the slopes soon.
