Sweihan Swing
Another blast through the beautiful Abu Dhabi desert searching for new challenges. Following last week’s trip to Sweihan, a revisit was deemed necessary to map out a wider area and find some new play areas. And boy, did we find some beauties! Shortly after the warm up we entered a magnificent area full of big dunes and great bowls to climb and loop around to our hearts content. But this was just the beginning.
Moving on, the convoy had to cross a number of straight crests on our way to the next playground. It was here that our one and only stuck occurred – but hey, even the mighty Dodge Ram can get suckered. A quick recovery by Marshal Javier had us back on track in no time so we could get on with tackling an endless supply of hill climbs, side slopes, dips and bowls.
Unfortunately one fella was facing an overheating issue with his trusty steed (not) so a few unscheduled stops were necessary, but this allowed us time to socialize and put the world to rights and enjoy the last of the cooler weather.
Reaching the halfway point at Nagra we felt obliged to do a couple of climbs but the bumpy, uncomfortable terrain quickly saw us heading off in search of pastures new. Some challenging, soft sand on the route back resulted in a couple of guided self recoveries, expertly supervised by the support team, but overall progression was good. With time running out, the convoy followed a more gentle line at a faster pace to reach the exit just 10 minutes behind schedule.
A huge shout out to the support team today, Matt as a superb second lead and to Senior Anders and Marshal Javier for keeping us all safe. Thanks to everyone who joined the drive and I wish you all a very happy Eid.
