Saturday Sand Fever

Share with your friends!

Great start with everyone ahead of schedule! Hats off Fellas!

We left Badayer shops at 4 PM sharp to the warm up area, very soft sand along the way towards the Iftar Bowl. After reaching that massive dune everyone had opportunity to practice the control of the car on the side slopes and huge descents on very soft sand conditions.

After Iftar Bowl we headed south looking for better dunes for cresting. A few second tries and after a triple stuck we started heading to the exit! The sun was setting quite quick and we eventually end up driving about 35 minutes in night condition! New challenge!!!

Learning points on this trip:

1- ALWAYS inform when you are doing a second trie!

2- If the car in front is doing a second try, the rest of the convoy MUST NOT MOVE AT ALL!

3- We all have to improve our communication as a team to avoid any undesirable situation!

KAREN: Great driving today. Remember to ALWAYS inform if you are inside a bowl or doing a second trie.

ALESSIO: Great control of the car and settling with your new tires. My only comment for today is to watch your distance to the car in front, specially when cresting, donโ€™t get too close. Ciao!

RATHICA: Great driving today. Also remember to ALWAYS inform when doing a second try so the front of the convoy will wait for you!

ANDREA: Could not take the big challenges. So sad your overheat problems were not solved, good luck with your garage!

PREGGY: Great support in the back of the convoy today! Thanks a lot Boet!

Thanks for joining Fellas and have a great week!

  1. What an offroad weekend! So many trips finalized with a nice offroader drive in a convoy with the ideal number of only 6 cars. Sorry guys that I skipped few of the high slopes – did not want to push my car too hard to avoid making things worse. Liked the area and the company and catch up soon on sand. Thanks!

  2. Perfect area for an offroader trip. What a hair raiser (thankfully I donโ€™t have that much). From the start of the trip we started to climb on soft sand. The dunes were already riddled with tracks, which made the sand even softer. Full concentration was required at all times to avoid getting stuck and to ensure that you were following Tiagoโ€™s tracks and not the tracks made by some random Bedouin. By the time we stopped for our first break we had climbed so high I thought Iโ€™d be able to wave to the man on the moon – but sadly heโ€™d moved over to the dark side.
I got to practice some recovery – yay – and the drive ended safely.
On a more serious note – we need to improve communication as a team. It is important to listen carefully to instructions given during recovery. If the communication was not clear, ask for clarity. Rest assured that the safety of the convoy is our highest priority.

  3. Very fast paced and exhilarating drive. Communication should definitely improve. We should all Please mention if we see other convoys approaching so that our convoy can make safe driving decisions timeously. We should also remember to be patient and let people take their second try and not change the convoy order. We also needed to limit the chatter on the radio so that rescue operations can use the radio instead.
