Today’s convoy braved the dense, eerie fog which, enveloped a large portion of the route to the meeting point, and arrived ahead of time to get this well anticipated drive started on schedule.

The drivers in today’s convoy had not driven in this section of the Abu Dhabi desert before, so they were expectedly excited and eager to experience this terrain which is somewhat of an enigma amongst our new offroad enthusiasts.

The start of this drive usually claims a few stucks due to a very soft layer of sand which is deposited in depressions and small bowls. However, today’s  firm and slightly damp sand  conditions provided the perfect driving surface for side sloping and zig-zagging through gauntlets created by adjacent rows of dunes that tended to go on forever. At times it looked  like the convoy was caught up in a blissful hypnotic trance just weaving between and around massive dunes with high smooth slopes. The expression on the faces of the drivers, as they congregated during the short breaks along the route, indicated that their experience was somewhat different from the outward appearance of the convoy. Let’s just say that blissful was not the first discription that sprung to mind.

As the drive progressed the climbs got higher and the descents got steeper, but the convoy took it all in their stride. They simply devoured one challenge after another without hesitation.

We completed a series of interesting climbs on the north westerly slopes of Nagara  and then made our back to the exit at moderate pace.

Our Juniors drove very commendably and displayed good convoy discipline and communication skills throughout the trip – a true testiment to Desert Fellas basic training program.

I look forward to seeing you all on the sand again.

Was an absolute pleasure and a great first drive after such a long time! Thanks so much to Preggy, Teddy and Steven for a cracking mornings entertainment.

Its trouble though, Sweihan is all I want to do now 😀

    1. That’s probably how most offroaders feel after their introduction to Sweihan’s magnificent terrain

  2. This was a fantastic trip in such a beautiful area. It has taught me a lot about my car and skills. Thank you Preggy for organizing and to Nick and Teddy for the company.
