Ramadan Kareem Everyone!!

Today we had our first afternoon Ramadan trip. We met at the Al Qudra area, which has become our designated area for the first few lessons of our newbies.

We met at 4pm, deflated, had a short safety briefing, set the convoy order and started right away. Please from now on lets try to be 15-20 minutes early on our afternoon trips, as we would like to start the trip on the specified time in order to try and make it out of the desert before dark. The trip today was only about lectures by Marko followed by by trials by each and every Fella and Felicita. So here are some comments to everyone as per my observation:

Angel:
Thank you for being our second lead today. Job well done, thank you!!

Kunal:
There is improvement over last time, but you need to keep the safe distance. It is 15 to 20 meters ( four to five car lengths). At some points you were keeping it much less than that. It is important to pay attention to that not only for your safety but also for that of the car ahead of you.

Mohamed:
You need to have more guts while pushing on the gas. Your car needs more momentum most of the time. Don’t forget steer towards gravity as discussed.

Mahmoud:
You are still encountering fish tailing problems, especially on the side slopes. Use more power by mastering the tap-tap technique.

Makshumul:
Besides the above comments for Mohamed and Mahmoud, you really need to steer towards gravity. This is of utmost importance as it could otherwise put you and your car in danger. This is the key in desert driving!! Don’t steer towards the sky, ALWAYS towards GRAVITY!! Please remember this at all times. This is your second time on sand with us and now you see how important is to attend all lessons. Guys are moving to fast, try to keep up with them.

Karen:
You did fantastic today. Do not blame yourself if you get stuck. Your stuck is other people training and everyone is happy. Welcome back on the sand and hope to see you more on our drives. Thank you Tiago for support looking forward to see you together with your cars in our convoys.

Mr. & Mrs. Palavar:
First of all congrats for the new car!! Mrs. you rocked in it today. I have nothing to say to you today, you both did well and are ready for the advanced junior level. It’s nice to see family engaged in mutual hobby.

Tarek & Pradeep:
We had fun having you around today, and as i mentioned to Pradeep last time, you guys are advanced juniors already. But we will not forget not stoping (hook) on top of the crest. Please pay attention on simple tasks and show your “younger” colleagues how to take challenge in proper way. There is no skipping.

Salouh:
Your focus during the trip was on high level even you’re fasting for Ramadan. You did great job and you’re gaining more and more confidence and very soon you’ll be able to be independent supporter of Desert Fellas trips. You did miracle in short time. You’re working hard since day one and result is more than visible. Keep rocking man and we are very happy to have you around.

The trip then ended with a two rope recovery ( as mentioned above), which was the first for Desert Fellas (there’s always a first time). At the end, i think, we all had some fun while learning a lot. Thank you Marko again and again for your time and effort.

  5. Thanks for yet another great Learning experience. For those that have been driving on dunes for a long time, side sloping is no big deal. It’s like swimming for kids that grew up near the seaside or a river. For the rest of us however, it takes practice.
During today’s drive the fundamentals of side sloping was broken down into bite sized pieces, so that all participants knew what to expect an how to deal with different situations while performing the maneuver. This approach really helps to fast track one’s skill development, especially for those that have never done it before.
Although I have performed this maneuver on other drives, I was never sure about whether I was doing it correctly. I would put the peddle to the floor and hope not to make a fool of myself. Today, however, even though my car’s engine kept cutting off at around 4500 rpm 🤷🏼‍♂️I felt more in control and safe. Safe because the atmosphere created by Marko and the support team was one of learning and not competition. I knew that if I was not satisfied with my attempt I could repeat the challenge for my own satisfaction.
The fast paced drive to the exit was the cherry 🍒 on the cake (for those who like cherries). I loved sensation of the car gliding (not sliding 😜) over soft sand at speeds of up to 80 km/h.
Looking forward to the next lesson, and the one after that.

  7. @Salouh You were amazing as recovery!!! So got to where you were needed promptly and you had Good communication with the person requiring recovery! You were completely cool under pressure. ❤️
Loved the Learning experiences: side Cresting with my new car especially the long ones and the hook your back Tyres on the Crest of the dune was incredible; especially since each challenge was preceded by a ‘gather around show and tell’ session.
Pragasan I missed you – the car but felt happy leading you through the course 😂 thank you for your support.
Thank you @Marko for the lead and the patience 👍🏼
