After a few weeks away, Basic training 2 drive was ready to hit the dunes.

This convoy was a much smaller, some trainees will join back with us once their cars are sorted and some are back from travels, nevertheless these Fellas are pushing forward with more focus and dedication than ever.

We started in what usally is a busy area but this morning we had fresh dunes all to our selves, one of the joys of getting out very early and during summer. Straight cresting was a big part of the warm up which was well needed as almost the whole convoy was getting stuck on the crest. The soft sand was also extremely powdery causing us get extremely bogged down and even a pop out. Luckily Javier was our sweeper today to get us moving again in no time.

After the first hour and good warm up the flow stared to increase on some bigger dunes letting us open up our throttles a bit before exploring the famous eggbox area. Here things got extremely technical a few second tries and stucks later Fellas finally reached more open sands.

At this point in the distance we noticed a small figure on top of a dune waving for help, approaching the lone figure it became clear he and his passanger had been stuck for a while on top of a dune, Javier again saved the day with a recovery and then escorted them to a safe exit.

Now with all the recovery of the day out the way this convoy really got moving in the last hour of the drive, it was all about car control on side slopes, big dune straight cresting and steep decents. These guys were really starting to execute very good use of diciplines, car control and the ever important radio coms, managing to improve on the previous drive developed points.

Thanks for a great morning out and Javier for some excellent sweeping today.

It was a great joy to be back on the sand again after the issues with the car got sorted.

Chef Marc had some great tracks for us in mind and it went from easy worn up to very technical for us aspiring fellas.
Javier’s watchful eye guided us to got out of stuck situation on our own, and when we really couldn’t get out he was quickly at hand with the rope or a winch to get us up and running again.

Driving the second time with Malcolm showed that we got used to each other’s driving style and the distance was more constant. With some practice we grow well as a team.

It was a great drive and I’m looking forward to the next session

Firstly i’d like to thank the Desert Fellas team in continuing our training given that we are a smaller group now, it really shows the commitment that the team have to each of the members and their development. The drive was great fun! Chef mark picked some great lines, building on techniques learnt in the first lesson with some new ones added to the mix, towards the end I felt that there were moments where the convoy found a good rhythm. Big thanks to our sweeper Javier for the excellent guidance in moments of need and for the speedy recoveries early on. Looking forward to the next lesson.
