Advanced Junior Lvl 3 (AI 13)
There was excitement in the air at the meeting point of today’s drive. The prospect of our Advanced Juniors (AI 13) unleashing their newly acquired cresting skills on the dunes near Nazwa created its own energy.
However, there was another energy at play that was much more overpowering – the curse of Friday the 13th.
The convoy hardly got moving before the first “second try” was called. The warm up proved to be a little challenging with short crests and sharp turns which required a combination of bursts of power and extreme control. After a short briefing on some of the common errors that were observed during the warm up the convoy started to move more smoothly for a while.
Just as the pace was increased, and things were about to get interesting it became evident that our convoy was mentally exhausted and needed a break. With sunset approaching fast we decided give it one more try and see if we could deliver the drive that we’d planned – but it was proving difficult to maintain a continuous smooth flow.
After two pop outs, many second tries, a few stucks and a technical problem with one of the cars in the convoy, it was time to slowly and safely exit the desert.
There was no shortage of talent, skill and sheer determination on today’s drive. Some days you’ll leave the desert feeling victorious while on other days victory should be graciously conceded to the desert. Today was the latter.
We will be back in this very same area and you will leave the desert feeling like hero’s. For now, get some rest and reflect on how far you have all progressed on this amazing journey.
Thanks Marko, for breathing an air of calm into the convoy when it was most need. Javier, I know you will sleep well after all that excellent sweeping action. Big shout out to Hussam for making tracks that led the convoy safely out of the desert

I learnt about the 60 /40 …as I had missed the previous drive this was crucial for me, thank u for the drive looking forward to honeing this skill 👌 👍 👏
Practice makes perfect.
The 60/40 distribution is initially about knowing – that is the knowledge part which was explained by Marko. The next part is all about feeling- and that gets fine tuned with practice.
See you on the next drive.
The odds were not in our favour. But like Preggy said, sometimes you win and sometimes the desert wins and we’ve got to respect her.
it could have been anyone of us. Most importantly, we could all exit safely before dark and when it started to get very crowded.
Sweeper did a great job managing 2 pop-outs in relatively short time. DF support leading and support team on point as usual.
I’m hungry for more so onto the next one and let’s make it a positively memorable one!
I found the drive very intense, very fun but intense. High pace with challaging lines and crest surfing. I will be the first to admit I need a bit more repitition of this to get more comfortable and not feel like im pushing my capabilities. Will get there for sure and looking for to the journey..
Thanks everyone, leaders and supporters!!
As always really appreciate the time and effort you put into us!!
Your honesty is really appreciated. Remember that you are not alone in your apprehension about cresting at a higher pace. This is unfamiliar territory, and a little fear is a normal response. Very soon, cresting will be as familiar as side sloping, and you will be having a blast.
There will be lots of opportunity for repetition on the next trip. So stay tuned and watch this space💪🏼
A good drive even if it was a Friday 13th. Very different from the last one in AlQudrah. Tricky sometimes (special thanks to my skidplate for the amazing job lol) and having now the confirmation that pantyhose is a must at this level 😅.
Thanks to the leaders (Preg, Hussam and Javier) and Marko for his presence.
Looking forward to the next one !
Thank you Preggy, Javier and Marko for always making sure everyone is safe while having fun 🙏🏻
Always a pleasure driving under your lead and a pleasure to drive with all of the DFs.
