A very successful Ab Initio Gen 12
With everyone who was awake on time, tempretures checked, masks on and saftey distance in place we started. Weather was hot but the groups engagement was high, with the theroy out the way we split the convoy into 2 convoys for the drive, those with some experience and those with a bit less to very little at all.
Convoy 1.
Lead: Chef Marc
Support Team: second lead – Preggy, sweeper – Sujith
Convoy: Taha, Hazem, Andrew, Ahmed, Lucas, Darion and Lucy.
Trip started with saftey briefing, radio check then warming up with very basic stright cresting and decents, repeating the same challange a few times to get the convoy comfortable then increasing little by little.
A few second tries, some stucks but all delt with buy our sweeper and supports flawlessly.
A lot of learning to those brand new to sand driving and a chance for those who have been out a few time before to practise the DF diciplines. After a couple of hours we all exited safely and on time.
Everyone did amazing and was proud to see thier progress and confidence grow during the trip.
Convoy 2.
Lead: Marko,
Support Team: second lead – Lucca, sweeper – Gonzo
Convoy: Indra, Victor, Johann, Afridi, Altaf, Laco, Fouad and Saeed.
After the presentation and safety briefing, we started warming up with a slow pace ride.
During the two-hour drive, we increased the pace to the upper limit that all vehicles could follow.
Since the planned goal was reached, we pushed the convoy towards the next challenge by introducing new elements that we will practice on the next drive.
All the drivers showed good skills.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Saam and Michea for their efforts, commitment and support. I look forward to seeing the results of their work.

The first thing that draw me to Dessert fellas was the small amount of spots available for the Initio drives. I’ve been watching the space for months not wanting to miss out on a spot and I’m very happy I managed to register.
Why was I exited about the small numbers? Well the groups I usually drive with have huge numbers of drivers in the convoys, they are always unorganized, never setting off on time, very little safety instruction except for “don’t fight gravity” etc.
I have seen a lot of dangerous driving from people who have no idea how to handle their car and is placed into a position to do something they are not comfortable with and in one instance saw a rollover that was completely unnecessary. And then you have the people with a little bit more experience getting bored and showboating, changing the line, so by the time the back of the convoys comes along the line is a disaster.
I am so happy that the Dessert Fellas addressed all these concerns with safety and learning being top priories. In ONE drive I saw advice given on how to properly use your gearbox, how not to panic when you get stuck, proper recovery with explanation of how and why its done in that manner, how to reset and build momentum to clear a obstacle, strict radio communication guidelines and strict enforcement of keeping the leaders line.
I was so happy to see the leaders and support team so engaged in the drive.
Very much excited to become involved in this club and grow as a driver!
