Unfinished Business – Report

Share with your friends!

Most of us arrived on time but we still got delayed a bit waiting for the late arrivers (again). After deflation and safety briefing we managed to get moving by 6:20am.

We began with some warm up of side sloping and switching, then we entered a highly technical area where we stayed there for longer than originally planned. ย Finally after we managed to get ourselves out of this dilemma we moved on to the Iftar Bowl, where we had our major break.

We then moved on as planned to come out at around 9:55 at the Badayer shops after coveringย  32.5 km of driving on the sand. We had a few second tries, some self recoveries and one full recovery on the way. For me this area is still so mysterious and intriguing that i cannot say that i have yet finished the unfinished business. I will get there again soon.

I learned to not take challenge if you’re not sure that you can do it safely. Sometime is the best choice to keep convoy waiting until explore area and then come back and take them trough the challenge safely.

I also learned that knowing right techniques and experience is giving you confidence otherwise you can find yourself in “cup of tea” place where you don’t see the exit.

Tiago: Thank you for being my second lead today, a spotless job today my friend.

Sid: I see you are improving with every drive, one small thing though to work on is taking the decision to steer towards gravity and not fight it.

Rathica: Very happy to learn that today was your first time to make it all the way to the top of the Iftar Bowl, despite visiting it several times before. You are showing improvement on your driving but not so much on responding to the alarm clock. I suggest you go with two alarm clocks and set them five minutes apart ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‰

Petr: thank you for being our sweeper for today and taking care of the few recoveries we encountered on the way. Hope to see you more often on our trips.

Thank you Marko for corrections, advices and support along the way.

  1. Thanks Salish for the challenging drive and thanks Marko for the recovery techniques!

  2. Badayer is a challenging area and can offer great opportunities for Learning. It is very humbling as well as it teaches you that practice, practice, practice is always important!!! Waking up to the alarm clock was not the challenge as I am so eager to drive – my learning to input the drive location into Waze the night before and see how long it estimates arrival time๐Ÿ˜ฑ
Thank you for your patience and especially for not leaving me because I would have missed the opportunity to be with my dear friends.
Conquered the Iftar Bowl twice. I got to practice the pumping technique and it got me up there the first time and then second time without pumping but choosing a higher line instead to get the right momentum. Such fun๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ
Congratulations Salouh on your being a Trip Leader. Thank you Petr for keeping the flock together from the back. Thank you Marko and Red Baron for the second lead.

  3. The drive was challenging, still need to master the art of switching as i get nervous on the crests that on big dunes. Looking forward for episode 2. Enjoyed the small convoy this time that had speed and momentum.
