Traction satisfaction

Man were we in for a close call with an abandoned vehicle today, but quick reactions, solid training and experienced driving proved to aviod some costly repairs.

As we set off in the midday heat to satisfy our need for some traction action, we left some massive dust plumes in our wake with the speed we tackle our fist dunes. It was turning out to be just what was prescribed but then, disaster almost struck.

Crossing over a sharp crests and at this level it’s with some serious momentum, our lead very calmly called out the caution ahead to notify the situation. Makeing the way over on a safer line the pitcher became clear why the waring was needed. Literally a few cm away from his front bumper was an abandoned KTM enduro motor cycle. Now we are not exactly sure how it was abandoned almost halfway up this sharp dune but we could tell that there was some kind of tumble that took place and the owner was obviously taken out buy his fellow riders to seek medical assistance. We moved the damaged cycle out the way and to a much flatter and visible spot, not to have others fall ill to a similar fate, then we continued to make tracks.

At this point, the hottest part of the day, we had free range of the dunes and not another track, convoy or soul could be spotted in this heat. Despite visabilaty with the over head sun always being poor, especially in lighter coloured sand, we made light work of some big dunes and sharp crests. Picking some advanced approaches and challenging lines was just enough to satisfy us before our tempreture guages started to climb almost as high as we did. This is was a good moment to change to a higher gear and let our engins cool down at speed with lower revs towards our exit after a thrilling drive. Thanks for a drive that was very satisfactory and unpredictable, catch you on the sand soon.

A fun mid day drive after finishing training in the early morning to practice more cresting, switches and other fun while exploring more areas in Al Quadra.
Thanks for making the time to have a trip with the two car convoy
