For this last drive of 2021 the heavens opened up with some heavy rain for the first time this year.

It was also the first time for some in these mud like conditions, so during the saftey briefing we made sure everyone had to increase tire pressure, stay focused and prepare for a bumpier ride than normal. These conditions bring some bigger risks of pop out and make side sloping even more dangerous. Luckily everyone has had the proper training which meant we could really have a great and safe drive ahead.

The first part of the warm up was high paced and with great flow. 20 min in one Fella had to stop and check his car due to some macanical issues, everything seemed good to continue so the stop was only a few short minutes. As predicted all the dunes with tracks on them were very bumpy and finding smooth ones proved to be very difficult as almost every dune had tracks from the past few days visitors, eventhough today there were hardly any other convoys in sight.

We managed good time towards the big dunes for a few hill climbs but just after one climb the macanical issue of our one member persisted. At this point we made the decision to let him exit saftey before some serious damage and our sweeper escorted him out while the rest took a quick break.

Not long after we got moving again with some purpose and really started to pick up the pace. Big climbs, bowls and long side slopes was on the agenda for the rest of the drive and the convoy managed countless with prefect distance, excellent flow and with amazing pace. We even managed to find a few patches of untouched slopes to give our suspension a brief rest inbetween the rougher tracks.

After conquering some massive climbs and technical bowls near our exited we stopped for a quick karak tea and some cheerful banter before inflating to head home.

Thank you all for a truly epic drive, the level of skill and techniques was on top form, still can’t believe that some of you only started your off-roading careers less than 10 drives ago. Great support today from 2nd lead Victor and sweeper duty by Johann, even though there was no recoveries.

Wish you all a very prosperous 2022 with many great adventures in the sand.
