Three Is A Charm

The drive got off to a bit of a delayed start due to late arrivals, but the early birds who were keen to drive eagerly pitched in to help with deflation and got the show on the road.

The convoy was immediately thrown into the deep end of a technical area that tested their knowledge of the basic principles of off-reading. Clearly a few of the Fellas were off the sand for way too long and lost the muscle memory of what to do when the car in front gets stuck or a second try is called. Safety distance issues persisted for almost the first hour of the drive but everyone was properly warmed up by the time we exited the first technical area.
After a short break near what looked like a protected desert forest, we headed off across a small plain and back into a technical area with very small dunes that had freshly laid sand in spots. This made the sand texture extremely unpredictable – one moment we were on firm sand and the next it felt our cars were driving in thick mud. The convoy did an amazing job of remaining focused and showed good technique in crossing this section of the route.
For all that effort, they were rewarded with large, gently sloping dunes where they enjoyed side sloping at high speed with some creating action thrown in as an added bonus.
About 7 km away from our planned exit point, one of the Fellas experienced severe engine problems and was towed to a nearby emergency exit by Tiago. From there, the entire convoy drove slowly along a gravel road until we arrived at the planned exit point just before sunset.

The convoy showed a lot of progress along the drive. This drive emphasized the importance of maintaining sensible safe following distance and good communication throughout. These are the basics of good off-roading, so let’s master it and enjoy our hobby in a safe way.

Like always, the safety and order of the convoy was managed impeccably by second lead – Rathica, and the supervisor on this trip who also doubled as sweeper – Tiago. Thanks for the awesome teamwork and support.

Such an amazing drive, we almost practiced everything we’ve learned since we joined Desert Fellas group, the weather was extremely hot and cars was trying hard to survive & give the expected performance in the same time without the drivers loosing their focus. The best part was the last technical area where we were moving continuously on above average speed without stopping like a snake between the small dunes and everybody did well.
Thank you Preggy for taking us there, it was a pleasure driving behind you in your first leading advanced junior drive, thanks Rathica for the second lead & Tiago for the supervision and the high spirit that you always keen to transfer it to us 👍💪💪
Looking forward for the next drive😊
And thanks for the cover photo 😍

        Only visible when needed 😂😂

  3. Preggy chose some nice challenges to lead the team. Even though we got off a little late, the convoy was eager for the challenge ahead. Safety distance and choices still need to be practiced for sure. If you keep the correct distance and keep the momentum going, you will be able to enjoy all the challenges.

  4. Great advance junior trip, we had technical areas, we had side sloping and we had plenty of cresting 😎

First time following Preggy and it was awesome, nice variety of areas and ambitions route. Pity it was cut short, but it is part of the game!! Hope you get the Jeep back in the dunes soon Jan!!!

Thank to the support team also, Rathica had a tough job early on keeping everyone in order but we came good in the end. Tiago thanks for the recovery!! 😉

    See you all soon!

    1. Thanks, hoping I might even get out this weekend 🙏🙏🙏🚙💨🤞

      1. is there a Red V8 Monster coming??

        1. I’m sad to say… It won’t be a V8 😭 but may have something up my sleeve to make it a little more exciting… 🤞🤞

          1. Interested, will waiting and see!!

  5. It was a great drive, the route Preggy picked was fun, challenging and technical in places. As mentioned, a little rusty at the start but once we got into a rythem and started to trust and understand the drivers in front we got a real good flow and gathered some pace. Apologies for the early finish… My engine gave up its boots and I now firmly understand what it’s like financially to be a jeep owner 💰💰🎰💰💰😬 Thank you to Preggy, Rathica & Tiago for a great trip and look forward to hitting the sand with you all soon 🚙💨

Good to hear that you guys had fun and glad that those who had mechanical problems were safe, cars and parts are replaceable but not us drivers, keep up the good spirit.

    It was an enjoyable one
