Star Gazer
Another year draws to a close and no better way to bid it fairwell with a remote Star Gazer camp.
Each time the long drive towards starfish dunes seem to get a bit shorter and feels as if what was once a massive journey, now is somewhat a pleasant little drive.
We where a small convoy meeting up for this camp but cars where packed with family and gear ready to enjoy one of my favourite spots in a beautiful landscape that usally seems, untouched and with out any other vehicle tracks this time it seemed as if we were the first to visit in months.
Reaching Al Wagan early afternoon the wind was at 29km gusts, not ideal for tents but I knew the wind would be much calmer once we reached camp, checking the forecast before leaving is always a good idea. While setting up camp it was a bit tricky to start but soon the wind died down and the weather was beautifully pleasant.
While the kids played some games at camp, dads whent for a quick drive to explore the area and as always in this area the dunes did not dissapoint with the views and neither the driving bliss of big bowls and monster crests.
Reaching back at camp the fire was lit, drinks flowed and meat grilled as we were treated to some beautiful astronomy through a telescope set up. We really enjoyed the cool air and silence of the magnificent desert and after the little ones tired themselves out it was time to enjoy a peaceful sleep.
Next morning there was coffee and breakfast followed buy a fast paced massive drive before packing up camp and heading back home.
Thank you Sven, Paz and family. This trip was really special and the young ones I think enjoyed it most.

It was our first DF camp and it super nice. It was a great time out with the families and the kids had an absolute blast. The absence of light allowed us to see the stars, which gave us a great view during the night as we haven’t seen in Dubai.
The lastly, I had the most epic “junior” drive ever and couldn’t wipe the smile off my face after going through the huge bowls connected by a high speed switch.
Thanks for the great time and showing me some great tracks
