Shaped by sand
The morning started very quite in an area with no other vehicles around, this area is always special with hidden treasures, scenic spots and usually no tracks. The day would hold some interesting surprises ahead!
One of our off-road member joining on this trip this morning had to make a detour so we coordinated a meeting point for a rendezvous 11km from our starting point. We started moving towards a small technical area for a nice little warmup and were lucky enough to spot some gazelle and camels along our way towards some bigger dunes with some impressive bowls.
We had a solid hour and a half of fun driving with long side slopes and near vertical climbs at times which kept our Jrs on there toes but they performed really well with good discipline before we had our first break. At this time we met up with our offroader member which would prove very value in just a few minutes because of his very powerful winch. As we were crossing some straight crests the convoy had to come to a sudden stop! At the bottom of one of the soft sides was some fossilised dunes that had created a small cliff like cave and because of quick reactions and our offroader’s winch we were able to recover quite easily.
The next part of the drive was at a high pace and level as we navigated through large technical dunes with beautiful bowls and then later very long side slopes with vertical drops and climbs. We had good flow and pace but suddenly we had to stop again because one of our member had a catastrophic engine failure. The last few km to the exit he had to be towed out slowly and luckily we all made it out safely and on time.
Even though the day held many surprises, good and challenging every one was in high sprits as we inflated and waited for the recovery truck. Thank you for a great morning, looking forward to the next dive and having the grey Xtera back once the engine rebuild is done.
