Sanday Morning

Trip Report and drive by Niall
A sleepy start to Sunday morning, with the winds of the last two days having died down, our team of adventurers met bright and early under the cover of darkness and were deflated well ahead of time at our meeting point.

Following a quick briefing we set forth into the desert, and were greeted not only by crisp untouched sands, cleared for us by the winds, but also a huge amount more greenery and bushes than last time I drove at this location.

After what felt like an age traversing a relatively technical area littered with shrubs, and a small stuck that was expertly cleared by our sweeper Pavel, we finally made it out of the vegetation for the real fun to begin. We took a quick break to gather our thoughts then pushed on towards some bigger dune formations, picking up the pace and pushing our cars across the sweeping plains.

We raced across the dunes, crossing bigger formations with expert precision from all our drivers. After a few passes across the larger dunes, we turned towards pink rock, and took our second break at the top of chefs bowl, where we shared some drinks and celebrated Darinka’s birthday with a spectacular view.

Feeling refreshed and rehydrated we took a few high speed passes around chefs bowl, then dropped down behind pink rock and through the mountain pass. With our engines screaming and pedals to the metal we did several climbs of the main face of pink rock, looping round again and again to enjoy the thrills!

With our desert appetites truly satisfied, we wound down and took a gentle cruise towards the exit, finishing up a few minutes ahead of schedule!
Thanks to everyone who joined for my first drive as lead in training, and special thanks to Marc and Pavel for keeping our convoy together and safe!

Hope to see you on the next one, and Happy Birthday once again to Darinka! 💪🏼
