Prospect Lesson 2 (AI 9)

Share with your friends!

Everyone on time to start this beautiful morning!

Keep up like that fellas!

We started with a safety briefing followed by convoy order.

The trip bedpan with straight crests to consolidate what we have done on Ab Initio. We did the exercise one by one and next we did as a whole convoy.

Once everybody was solid on “momentum, inertia, gravity” we had a break.

Second part of the trip was the side slope exercise, again, we did it one by one and later everybody as a convoy.

After all Fellas were solid on sloping I to a track to mix straight cresting and slopes to put in a fluid drive all we had practice till now.

All drivers who finished Prospect lesson 2 did a great job and are now upgraded to JUNIOR level. Congratulations!!!

Make sure that you have ALL required equipment by next drive in order to earn your flag!!!

Thanks  Michael and Gonzo for the support and Marko for the opportunity to lead one more trip!

  1. Another great trip today,

The second lesson has been even more important for me to understand the values of the group as we practiced exactly the same rules and concepts from the first.

    – great starting off where we ended last time, gave continuity and made us start from somewhere Were we were “comfortable”.
This was also a great warmup and courage injection for the second part of the lesson.

    – beautiful to see that even experienced drivers and leaders get in trouble in “easy” situations, this made us understand that no matter the amount of experience, things can still go wrong.
Loved to see how from these situations you guys were not “sore” nor downplayed the situation, but treated it like part of the lesson.

    – was good to see what happens when a tire pops out and the amount of time and resources required to fix it.
The only thing we could have done different here is maybe if one of the leaders not involved in the recovery could have guided us in what we were watching. But I guess that we will get a lot more exposed to this with time.

    – loved the final gear check and the flag ceremony, gave so much value to all the things I have learned and made me feel that I had to earn every cm of that flag.

    – one last thing would be regarding the calendar of event. Would it be possible to know in advance the trips (for the next 2/3 weeks for example) so it’s easier to arrange everything else around it? I think it would help with participation and consistency.
But I appreciate that there might be reasons why this could not be possible.

    Fantastic trip.
Looking forward to do more and more.

    Thank you.

    1. Thanks for the valuable feedback Michea. We always try to publish the trips around 5 or 6 days in advance. More than that in my case is not possible because of my roster is very dynamic

      1. It makes perfectly sense. Thank you very much, I work with very variable schedule too, I know the feeling 😉

  2. Thanks Tiago and Marko for the opportunity to practice the second lead role and the cresting training at the end . Saludos

    Hi all,

Thank you for an amazing drive today!

Today we started with the quick briefing which had some ‘pop quiz’ style questions – I really liked that as it got my brain working and kick the ‘sleepiness’ right out of me 😆

We started our trips going over skill we learnt in our last drive which was great for getting a feel for my car again and also building up my confidence.

After a quick break/briefing we went to stage two which was the side sloping, something I have never done before.

It was a little scare by at no time did I feel that I was ‘in over my head’ because I could hear constant radio feedback while driving explaining the terrain ahead and advising/reminding me of the speed I need to be in.

I needed recovery once today – while I was stuck Tiago and Marko explained to me why I ended up in that situation and what I should do on my next try to avoid getting stuck.

The fluid driving that we did towards the end was great and it was my first real experience of driving in the desert in one convo as one team.
It was amazing and I can’t wait for the next drive !!!

    Thanks everyone !

P.s Thanks Gonzo for the recover !

    1. Thanks for your feed back Sam, don’t forget to install an ABS KILL SWITCH as soon as possible. Will cost you around 350 dirhams.

    Another amazing drive!

Safety and discipline, immediate feedback and corrections with explanation.

We got to witness an unfortunate tire pop out, however the team was supportive and demonstrated some tips and steps to take if ever faced.

I got a great convoy experience, sharpened the off-road skill and had a great time.

    Than you!

    1. Thanks for the feedback! Marko said your compressor is ok!!! Just get that floor jack and you’ll get your flag!

2nd Drive with Desert Fellas and new things has been learned as usual, softer sand than the last drive bogged me couple of times and was able to make self recovery, Tiago advised me to lower the tire pressure more and everything worked fine after that, except one high centered and again Tiago saved me but this time was by his Brazilian power 😉 by pushing my car from the top of the dune with his hand, Thanks Amigo!
I really can feel the spirit, commitment, safety & family environment with this group.
    Thanks Desert Fellas.

    1. Thanks for the feed back brother! You improoved a lot!

Thank you for the amazing drive and the very clear and instant feedback, the guidance is really appreciated.
This drive I was able to overcome the ultimate nightmare for me, which is side slopes, thank you for Tiago for the spirit, guidance and above all, pushing me out 😉

Thank you guys all for making this happen.

    1. Thanks for the feedback, keep following trip leaders instructions and you’ll do great!

I would like to thank everyone especially Gonzo and Tiago trying their best to get me out of the tyre pop out situation. I hope to join the rest of the group in upcoming trips. Thanks. You guys are doing a great job by first explaining the physics and theory behind the lessons and then moving onto practical. This helps us understand the situation better.

    1. Syed, I’m sorry that you had the pop out, that’s part of the game and we alway have to take learning point from this events, in your case was to make sure your spare tire is in good condition!
Chef Marc just posted Ab Initio for January, stay tuned as you must to Lesson 2 in order to continue.
      Thanks for your feedback!

  8. Great trip with a lot of good learning points for everyone, unfortunately a tired pop out that couldn’t be fixed on the spot but we managed to take our fella out of the sand safe and sound. Thanks Michael for the second lead was nice to work with you in the front nice communication and support.
Thanks Tiago for an other great trip and for the opportunity, looking forward for the next ride… happy holidays for everyone
    Gonzo 😎
