Prospect drive 2 Ab Initio Gen 14
Bright and early, some later comers so we started brief 6 min behind schedule. In the brief we recapped on disciplines and safety guidelines giving prospects chance to ask questions and get a clear understanding of the drive ahead expectations.
Once we were all ready the drive started off with easy warm up, it didn’t take long for the first, second and third stuck but our sweeper trainee managed the recoveries well. With warm up done we started in final lesson for prospect level… side slopes.
Drivers managed well, with a few adjustment we gained some impressive rhythm and flow, this is where the drive really started! It was at a quick pace so the first and only pop out happened near end of the trip which gave sweeper trainee chance to gain some experience.
After practicing more side sloping we headed to the exit 15 min behind schedule. A big congratulations to all prospects completing this level and look forward to seeing their progress over the next 11 weeks.
Thanks Marko, Preggy, Javier, Zoubeir and Hussam for the Support.

Thanks guys,
Today I have really gotten better into my car and feel better with my positioning in the team.
I appreciate the feedback given for me to improve my performance and to get me to accommodate my role as pilot of the FJ.
I look forward to having instructions on how to handle the skidding through swift curbs in flat terrain as this is another new experience for me 😁
Thanks for the Drive, this is how I like it. Unfortunately I held up the convoy near the end, my apologies for this, this could have been avoided. I got new tires this week, these are stiffer than my previous. I should have deflated 2 psi less and start to work from here. This in combination with a too steep turn in soft sand, caused the pop out.
Zoubair, you were in training, you did a good job. Congratulations with getting my BFG on the rim.
Feedback from my side:
Wish you all a nice weekend! Hopefully till next week.
Xaf
Hi Xaf, thanks for your honest review.
No need to apologize for situations like stuck and tire pop-out. Those happens regardless of the equipment and driver experience.
Your rim is damaged and we shall give you apology.
As honesty is one of our main values, please let me address these two remarks.
1. I would only partially agree with this statements.
As you had a chance to see the terrain by configuration it was quite unstable, this caused instability during whole process. We partially sort this issue using big size jack plate. Now, If the engine is running, vibrations are generated and transmitted through the car over the car jack to the surface. This causes the sand to collapse under the wheels and increasing possibility for carjack to slip from safe position.Combining this with pushing and pulling tire is recipe for disaster. Using a compressor with the engine running really saves battery power but in this particular case puts the sweeper at risk.
Statement that you remain quiet is also not completely true, because you mention it minimum tree times and two times you started car engine.
If we take into account that it takes less than 1.5 minutes to inflate a tire with a sweeper compressor and the compressor is not such a big consumer. Even if the battery is old, ignition cables are part of our training and standard equipment. If we take into account battery consumption on the one hand or the safety of the sweeper on the other I will vote for the safety of the sweeper. I’m sure we can agree on that.
2. “Spooning” (using tire leveler) is not part of our training and it is something we do not do. If we can’t fix the pop-out using our methods and skills from recovery training, we’ll replace the tire. “Spooning” was done with your tool on your rim, so it wasn’t a sweeper tool and he shouldn’t use it at all. Sweeper is liable because he used a tool for which he was not trained for. Anyhow, this is not excuse.
On the other side, owner should know that this tool is not adequate for his rims. Tool was provided by owner and if owner remains quiet in case of the engine running he could remain quiet and not provide tool which caused damage on his rims.
Responsibility should care both parties.
Since your rims are painted black I guess only the paint is actually damaged because the rim shouldn’t be so soft and it shouldn’t be damaged so easily.
We will make sure to not use any equipment in the future which is not part of the standard DF recovery gear. From your side, please do not offer any assistance and let sweeper take full responsibility for his actions.
And finally, If the rim is really damaged, it is our fault and I will compensate part of the damage he caused because sweeper’s work today was my responsibility as his superior.
Thanks and sorry for any inconvenience.
Also, please visit tire shop (even those on petrol station) and tell them to “flash your tire” this is standard procedure after tire pop-out. You may also need balancing.
Cheers!

Fellas, no worries about the rim, it is cosmetic. (I am Dutch and very direct, no hidden messages.)
Thank you for the info above, this makes it more clear how you run as a club.
Xaf 🙂
Another great prospect drive Marshall. It’s really encouraging to see how fast this group picked up the new skills that were taught today and the high pace they were able to maintain by the end of the drive. Each group of Fellas just seem to set the bar a little higher. Makes me look slow😜
Good job on your recoveries Zoubeir. Sorry you had to work so hard today, but that’s DF sweeper training for you. If nothing else you can be glad it’s winter.
Well done everyone. I look forward to following your progress on future drives.
Another nice cool morning drive with the Fellas.
Thanks Marshall Marc for the guidance and keeping us safe, thank you Marko for overseeing the whole trip, and of course thanks to Preggy, Zoubier and my fellow lawyer colleague Javier 😉
Catch you on the next one
Thank you all the Fellas for another great morning in amazing Dubai Desert. Always valuable lessons to retain! Experienced recovery procedure in first hand. Great to see familiar faces from day 1. Thank you for the support!
Thank you all for the excellent drive.
I appreciate the strict guidelines and the honesty and adaptability of everyone.
I know I had a few problems with the convoy with Daniel and we swapped out after discussing it and it seemed to work better.
On my part of course I can push harder and I appreciate Markos constant encouragement for me to push on and catch up.
I am trying to understand the gearing and when to shift up and down as my car is manual so hopefully I will get more used to chosing the right gear for the appropriate dune.
As with Daniel I find the sharp turning a little challenging (after trying to catch up) especially trying not to use the breaks. I guess gearing down is the best way for me.
Again really appreciate the efforts of all of the leaders/sweepers etc.
Hi Fellas,
Yesterdays morning drive was really awesome. Seems its the beginning of the adrenaline rush coming in the future drives.
Thanks Chef Marc, Marco,Preggy ,Zubeir and all fellas for their excellent coordination and support.🤗
it was a pleasure to be part of the prospect drive. getting hands-on is part of the training and i’m glad to do it under the good-eye of seniors/supervisors. experiencing situations in real drive and training is different and good experience. i will learn from it.
eager to see how this group develops over the next few drives. i’m sure you are all hungry for more so keep it coming!
