Ode to Joy
Deflating for Ode to Joy drive felt like an Ode to summer at 42 degrees Celsius this afternoon!
With one Fella having to drop out due to overheating issues and another being at a very different and far way point location to the drive, the convoy was compact which meant briefing was quick and sharp.
Warm up was a bit technical and bumpy, the wind was also blowing a lot making the sand hard in some places and like quicksand in others but soon we found some nice dunes to climb and side slope before entering the technical area.
After switching to low range we made quick work and progress through the tight, sharp technical dunes reaching a beautiful viewing spot for a photo op, some refreshments, and getting our selves ready to pick up the pace to and beyond Amir’s hill.
This is where our engines started roaring with long side slopes and snakes. A good hour spent in this area we then headed towards Al qudra lakes through the desert, enjoying the scenery with some epic lines before finishing on time at a quite lake to end the day with a sunset.
Thank you Anders, Martin and our sweeper Zoubier for a great way to close the day. See you all soon on a dune.

This drive was like a private lesson because I was sandwiched between two Off-Roaders following Chef Mark! Some great technical areas and some long, sweeping side slopes taken at a much higher pace than I’m used to – the supercharger was screaming at times! Great lines Chef Mark! I hope my presence as junior did not spoil your afternoon by lowering the level of challenges but at least I declined to test Zoubeir’s recovery skills by not getting stuck! Thanks guys, a real pleasure driving with you.
I was looking forward to this one after being out for a couple of weeeks. It was a well balanced drive which touched every Junior level skill. We were pacing along those long slopes and technical dunes and the radio silence meant we were “in the zone!”
It was a great way to end the Eid day. Temperature cooled down so much and we enjoyed a beautiful sunset.
Looking forward to the next one!
