It’s not often we take the extra 20-minute drive to Al Ain past Swiehan, but when we do, it’s usually worth the early rise. Today, however, was extra special.
Starting our journey near the airport, I expected to see many bushes from the recent rains and lots of tracks at the massive Yoda bowls. To our delight, neither was true!
While there were more bushes than six months ago, the increase was barely noticeable. The best part? Our drive line was completely untouched, not a single track in sight.
We took full advantage of this rarity, laying fresh tracks and attempting some crazy lines that are usually so bumpy you’d need a dentist afterward. But today, the slopes were smoother than a mirror.
After having our fun in the bowls, we stopped at Old Lady Dune. This massive dune looked untouched as well, so we made the most of it before heading closer to Sweihan to finish off at Temple Dune. The last hour on those razor-sharp crests was exhilarating.
Summer, though hot, has its benefits: smoother slopes and sharper crests make climbs more enjoyable and crest surfing more rewarding. We’ll enjoy the next few months in Swiehan, but we’re definitely looking forward to winter to camp out further afield with even more exciting dunes.
Thank you Marcin for an excellent way to end off the week. Catch you on the slopes soon.
