In one of the most remote corners of the UAE lies Liwa, a vast stretch of golden dunes and one of the most majestic sand kingdoms on Earth. And as tradition goes, our Desert Fellas adventurers set out once again this National Day weekend to conquer its legendary slopes.

Leaving Dubai in our rear-view mirrors, we began the three hour journey toward Hameem, our meeting point to top up fuel, regroup, and officially kick off our Liwa expedition.

With tires deflated and our safety briefing wrapped up, we climbed the first dunes and instantly felt the difference. This was no ordinary playground. The sand was powder soft, the dunes were sharp and technical, and the terrain demanded full focus as we threaded our way through these treacherous formations.

After many hours of driving, sabkha crossings, and towering dune climbs, we began the search for our campsite. With so many epic options, choosing just one was a challenge. But eventually, we found the perfect perch, a massive ledge 200 meters above the sabkhas. There we pitched our tents, lit the fire, and watched the sun melt into the horizon.

Night in Liwa was nothing short of magical, a sky full of stars and a silence so deep it almost echoed. It’s the kind of moment none of us will forget anytime soon.

The next morning, after breakfast and coffee, we packed up camp and made our way toward the exit, rolling back onto the tarmac after a grueling 140 km, even a bit ahead of schedule.
