Last dance
- It’s been a really long while since we’ve had an afternoon drive, and I’d almost forgotten what a pleasure it is to have virtually no other convoys in the area.
Last dance convoy had an interesting make up. It was published as a Junior trip, but there were only two Juniors on the drive. The rest of the drivers were seniors and support team members. The small convoy of mostly experienced drivers meant that we could cover a fair amount ground without too many interruptions.
The drive started with a brisk pace and increased quickly as we moved on to larger well spaced dunes in Al Qudra. The dune formation was ideal for high speed side sloping, so that’s exactly what we did. Our Juniors did an amazing job of following the slightly challenging lines while maintaining the flow of the drive. Towards the end of this segment we encountered powder soft sand, so we switched to low range and continued along our way.
After a short stop to rehydrate and give our trusty steeds a break, we entered the technical section of the drive which continued into the Al Faqaa desert. Since we were driving in the windward direction, we had to descend a series of small and extremely steep dunes, with care. A few vertical climbs were also thrown into the mix just to add a little variety to the technical section and to give our Junior drivers the opportunity to get to know their cars better. Unsurprisingly, they tackled these obstacles with with complete control, showing that with the right skills set it is absolutely possible to enjoy a drive in a technically demanding area without breaking your car.
As the sun was getting low in the sky, we started to make our way towards the planned exit. The last three kilometers of the drive consisted of a high speed dash along a gravel track, leaving a trail of dust in our wake. A perfect end to a warm summers day.
Keep up the spirited driving Fouad and Sara. Thanks for the support and great company Marko, Javier and Victor. See you all on the next drive.

After long time no see of Marko, had a nice hyper drive. even after my couple of years driving experience today I learned a new trick to maintain the following distance and keep up with the convoy. Thanks Commando for this advice.
Can’t wait to start the advanced training with DF.
Congrats to the ChefMarc for his new toy and the upgrade 💪🏻
Also congrats to Preggy and Javier.
Very well deserved .
Glad you enjoyed the drive @Fouad. What’s more important is that you learnt a new lesson that was specific to you and your driving style. Look forward to seeing you apply it during the upcoming advanced training.
