Joyride
Joyride was the theme I thought of for this trip, and it should have been an easy one, but boy was I wrong with this. Javier mentioned that the plan was a stretch for a junior trip, but could be doable.
After deflation, we headed towards a big dune close to Madam which is good fun and gave us a good chance for some bigger climbs after warmup. This spot is always a blast, regardless of the level, and ensures a great start to the day.
Shortly after, we headed into a technical area, which changed a lot since my last visit. Steep and deep drops, bushes and other obstacles made the crossing of this area arduous. Multiple times, we had to find a new path, and we also managed to get a first stuck in this area, requiring a rope recovery.
Once crossed, open and fast dunes awaited us, and we made our way toward the back side of super bowl. Big side slopes and steep turns are what we came here for and found. It was great fun for drivers and passengers as well, so we stayed for a bit and made use of the area. Super bowl was already on the horizon, so we should be able to finish the drive on time even if we spend more time here, so I thought.
Shortly after, a cooling tube gave way, and we had one car with an overheating engine. From here, the trip changed from joyride to a recovery operation, as we had 2.5km to the next sand road and some dunes in between us and the street towards the exit.
While we cut the trip short, we made it out on time and waited for a moment for the recovery truck to arrive.
Thanks, Tamer and Javie,r for the company this morning.
