FRESH START (AI 5) – report

Everyone was at the meeting point at 6 am sharp :).

After a recap briefing and safety briefing, convoy order was established and we started moving.

Marko led the trip with Karen as the second lead. In sequence were Mohamed Hazem, Feras, Michael Garcia and Tiago as sweeper.

We started with some straight cresting as warm-up where we had one stuck. After that Marko started to demonstrate the side sloping and we had classic examples why we should not fight gravity.

After repeating many side slopes and feeling that the group was confident we took a break. Tiago took the lead and Marko was following the convoy on the side.

We hit a nice sequence of dunes ideal for side sloping where we could see a huge improvement in the group’s driving technique. We those dunes in the opposite way now doing long side slopes reaching higher and at higher speeds. It was really nice to see that convoy moving in a synchronized snake pattern!

We had one more break and Marko and Karen went fort cresting training.

Then on the way to the exit, we mixed short and long slopes plus straight cresting where he had a few second tries and we emphasized the importance of keeping the exact track of the car in front.

We finished the trip at 9:30 sharp as planned and drove to the last exit to inflate and chit chat.

Karen: Good job for the first time acting as the second lead. In the beginning, had a bit of a hard time to keep the convoy in order. After a quick briefing improved a lot. Always remember that the second lead is responsible for the convoy order. Keep more distance than usual for the trip leader, look at the mirror the whole time and remember to always give a readback (copy) on the radio transmissions.

Good job on the crests today and congratulation you are now offroader!!!

Mohamed Hazem: A bit nervous at the beginning of the trip, got confidence little by little and improved a lot till the end! Remember to never fight gravity and always follow the exact track of the car in front!

Feras: Had an issue fighting gravity in the very beginning but also improved a lot along the trip. Don’t be afraid to push your jeep, it is made to do that, HIT THE GAS!!!

Michael Garcia: Solid drive along the trip today, don’t worry which gears the other drivers are using, FEEL THE CAR, listen to your engine and you’ll get more and more confident with your car!

Antonella & Giuseppe: The Best!!! Hope to see you again (Marko)

All drivers please make sure you get your ABS kill switches installed as soon as possible and remember,  after 3 trips you must have all safety and recovery equipment.

It was a pleasure to drive with you and see soon on the dunes!
