DEJA VU
Well then, what a week it’s been for Dubai residents and as the saying goes fortune favours the bold and today was no exception.
As most of us have been stuck in our homes all week, anticipation for the drive was high, would the water logged roads allow us to get to the meeting point? Is there even any sand dunes left in Sweihan!? Thankfully as dawn broke and as we headed to the rendezvous it became evident that all was well; the roads were passable and the dunes stood majestic as ever.
Deflated and ready to go our aim was to conquer some of the untouched free flowing dune formations the area had to offer. After finding our way through some muddy puddles and fence openings we found our rhythm, slide sloping and straight cresting the dunes head on until our hearts were content.
Ryan sprang into action with a rope recovery at what was later nicknamed ‘See Saw Ridge.’ After this, we decided it was the perfect moment to pause for some refreshments.
We then proceeded to further explore the area, which revealed more of its stunning landscape. As we passed two tourists riding camels, we identified an excellent spot for camping that had the vibes of Al Qudra, albeit an upgraded version.
We had to make a brief stop for a ‘tactical chunder,’ as one of our passengers needed to recover from an unsettling breakfast before continuing on our journey. A solid performance nonetheless.
As our adventure drew to a close, it was time to make our way to the exit. However, a quick tire change by our sweeper, due to a popped tire, set us back by 15 minutes. Big shout out to Pavel for being our second lead ,Ryan for the heroic sweeping, Tamer and Chris for keeping the convoy moving and spirits high.
See you on the sand soon
