Considering the cold and occasionally wet weather earlier in the week, the sand Nahil was unexpectedly dry and extremely soft.

These conditions are generally a recipe for a messy drive, but it seems that nobody gave the Brave hearts convoy that memo. The warm up was a continuous smooth flow with complete radio silence.

Since ours was the only convoy in the area for most of the drive, we had ample fresh dunes, which made side sloping a very pleasant experience. Brave hearts got their fair share of long side slopes which gave everyone the opportunity to really connect with their vehicles and focus on the nuances of negotiating such challenges while having fun.

As we progressed further along our drive we encountered dunes that had firm and pointed crests. Since our sweeper trainee, Martin, hadn’t gotten any recovery action the entire morning, we decided to spice things up a little by throwing a series of straight crossings into the mix. This choice claimed our lead as the first victim of the morning, and he was by no means the last.

The last leg of the drive demanded focus and trust in the other members of the convoy as we scaled high dunes, powered through deep valleys, sped around bowls of all sizes and made a dash for the exit. Through all of this, radio communication and convoy discipline were commendable.

Our second lead, Steven, did a great job keeping up with the lead. The other Juniors on today’s drive, Nowar, Simon and Thierry drove well in this undulating and breathtakingly beautiful terrain, while our sweeper trainee kept the convoy moving with his swift and safe recoveries.

Looking forward to our next adventure.

  1. The early start and the 125km drive to the meeting point is well worth the effort because this area is so beautiful. Virgin dunes, soft tracks and some nice challenges. Preggy, as always, picked some great lines and pushed the convoy through a variety of terrains including long side slopes, bowls, high climbs, sharp crests and subtle switches that tested and improved driver skill and confidence. A great morning out!

  2. Thank you Preggy for this fantastic drive in a new area for me. Exploring this part of the desert in the middle of beautiful dunes and challenging slopes was an excellent way to start the weekend. Looking forward to the next drive.
