Basic training lesson 4
We started early in the Al Madam, Refada area under good conditions – not too cold, not too hot – ideal for a focused training drive. The session was built around bowl work and refining core control skills, with a strong emphasis on side sloping, judging speed on climbs, managing controlled descents, and maintaining correct convoy speed and spacing.
The drive gave students a much better understanding of their vehicles, particularly around gear selection, power delivery on climbs, and overall car control in bowls. A number of repetitions were done to build consistency rather than rushing progression.
We had a couple of slow-leak pop-out style incidents and one more interesting situation on the side of a larger climb, which was handled calmly and correctly by Chef Marc and Adam. These moments were used as practical learning opportunities rather than interruptions.
Overall, it was a productive session with plenty of bowl driving, solid repetition, and the introduction of more challenging techniques. The feedback from the group showed clear learning and growing confidence, with a good understanding that there is still more to develop as the training progresses.
A good day on the sand. Cars and drivers are progressing well and are in a good position going into the next session. Well done to everyone involved.
