Basic training lesson 2
This lesson started in some of the thickest fog we’ve seen for many months, a sure sign that the season has truly started! And what better way for our aspiring Desert Fellas drivers to kick things off than with their first challenge of the lesson?
Finding the meeting point proved exceptionally challenging, with visibility barely reaching 10 metres. It was the perfect opportunity for the Fellas to put multiple tools and senses to work, using everything at their disposal to locate the exact coordinates for deflation and briefing. Challenge One Aced!
Once we started the actual driving, things became even more challenging. With a later sunrise and dense fog still hanging over the desert, the first part of the drive was all about feeling the car, building confidence and sharpening their ability to follow tracks.
As the fog finally started to clear, the pace picked up. Big challenges of side sloping, car control and positioning came into play as we pushed deeper into the dunes.
We also got the chance to introduce the Fellas to more technical dunes and low-range gearing, building the foundations and preparing them for the lessons ahead.
The morning finished with a fast paced flurry of sloping along some long crests before making our way to the exit, finishing right on schedule.
The morning couldn’t have gone smoother and everything went exactly according to plan. A big thanks to Ryan and Darinka for their exceptional support as always.
Now we’re looking forward to seeing what these Fellas bring to the next lesson.
