Basic training 8
Basic Training 8 drive felt like that is happening in Friday 13th.
Before the meeting point was shared a old dedicated Fella had to pull out due to a sway bar link issue.
At the meeting point this morning another Fella had an oil leak which meant he had to retire before even deflation.
With the bad luck pot empty and good luck pot full at this point the days objective where set, enjoy the drive the Desert Fellas way!
Warm up was steady and the Fellas disciplines were spot on. Good radio communications and perfect driving distance, we only had one small second try due to soft sand in a very technical dune crossing.
After 30 min of warm up the bigger dunes emerged under the sunrise as we flowed through them like waves in the ocean. A good hour had passed when we stoped for our first planned break near the foot of Pink Rock. After checking our cars it seemed the bad luck pot was not totally empty yet as my rear back shock body had sheared right off the mount. This is a known weakness for FJ cruisers and luckily no major damage had occurred.
We were all in a good mood now that all our bad luck was gone and took some time to celebrate with our new Fellas who have now completed their basic training. Congratulations Sven, Malcom and Firas!!! We are really proud of you and your driving. Use your new skills and level to enjoy the desert to the fullest on our fun drives we have planned for the season and very soon we will also take you to advanced training that will open up even more epic adventures.
Thank you Zoubeir for sweeping today, Johann for 2nd lead and Victor welcome back to Dubai.
Fouad and Marco sorry you guys had car issues I’m in the same boat now so see at the workshop this week and on the sand soon.
Keep rocking Fellas and make proud, fly those flags high you earned them all the way.

Congrats gents for achievement, well deserved!!! Enjoy your new role and stay safe… the best things yet to come.
Congratulations to our new graduates! Let’s now enjoy some fun drives.
It was a lengthy journey but everything comes together at the end. Fly the flag high!
Congrats Sven, Malcom & Firas.
As Marko says: you earn it 👍🏻 It’s not something given to you.
I’ll fix my ride and catch up soon.
It’s a great day to make it that far and earn the flag. From the beginning, getting stuck straight cresting to what we did over the last weeks is a testament to the DF program teaching offroading. Thanks for all the support over the last weeks and now looking forward to more drives together.
The group from AI16 was great and good to see that we all made it.
I hope all the issues from today can get fixed quickly and we are back on the sand in no time.
Well What a fun and exciting past few months it has been! Not only has the DF basic training program fast tracked me with the basic skills needed to navigate the desert, I couldn’t have met a nicer bunch of people along the way. Looking forward to seeing you all on the sand soon!
Congratulations @Sven, @Malcolm and @Firas. It’s always a pleasure to welcome a new generation of Fellas to the group. The old adage “what you don’t use, you will lose”, is also applicable to your off-road driving skills. So look for opportunities to put your skills to use and keep them sharp.
Fly your new flags high with pride, you’ve earned it. I look forward to seeing you all on the sand soon.
A short and awesome morning drive.
I was impressed by the skills’ level these fellas developped since AB16. Well done guys and waiting for you to enjoy the desert together !
