Basic Training 6
Earlier in the week the weather had lashed the dunes with rain and high winds which would give our trainees on Basic Training 6 drive a different feel in familiar sands.
After a thorough safety briefing and clear objectives set by everyone in the group we set out to achieve them promptly. warm up went well with a few tricky straight crests to nail the technique. A few second tries later and some momentum adjustments made short work of these crests. As the warm up was draining to an end the convoy entered the larger dunes and bowls and with very few other convoys in the area meant we could really enjoy larger climbs and longer side slopes in and out of the bowls.
The sky was clear and visibility excellent so we rested on top Pink Rock by Chefs Bowl and took in the scenes for a few minutes while enjoying each others good company. As we proceeded to find more bowls and pick up the challenge we had to do so with caution. The rain and wind had mad the the dunes extremely unpredictable, soft and hard slopes made it difficult to just the proper momentum and the bumpy, eroded tops of the crests made them dangerous and very bumpy, nevertheless this convoy managed it like experts.
The last part of the drive was dedicated to big technical dunes with many bowls, climbs and short turns, bringing all elements of the convoys training into play. Radio communications and disciplines on point gave our sweeper Zoubier very little to do except enjoy the drive. As our journey for the morning drew to a close we had a finale rally at Big Red and congratulated our trainees on successfully completing their program. Now they are ready to join us on Fun drives and fly their Desert fellas flags with pride.
Well done team! looking forward to many sandy miles together and many thanks to the Desert Fellas support team for helping them on this journey.
