Basic training 2
A new area with more challanges lay ahead for our trainees on Basic Training 2 drive.
Even though our warmup started smoothly we needed to escort one of our trainees to the exit due to damage on his vehicle. Our diciplines are so important, good following distance, clearing the area and finesse while straight cresting are all skills that will come with practice and on this dune it became clear why. With the car dropped at the exit our trainee hopped in as a passenger and we continued the lesson with the rest of the group.
The route took us in some technical dunes and our trainees first taste of low range gears. Maneuvering through these tightly packed, sharp crested little dunes is no meager task and can challenge many a seasoned off road driver but these trainees managed to navigate through them with very few stuck and self recoveries.
Once we reached some larger more open sands it was time to switch to higher gear ratio and enjoy some side sloping to gain experience on car control. This part of the drive was quicker paced, adrenaline filled and left our basic training group with grins from ear to ear.
A great morning of learning and driving and despite all its challenges we finished the lesson on shedule. Thanks to our supporting team Malcolm and Fouad. See you on the sand next week.
