Basic training 1
Basic training 1 was such a blast that it made us wish we had more time to take in the beautiful natural scenery.
The morning started with a short presentation about the full suite of emergency and safety equipment required for offroad driving. This was immediately followed by a straight cresting warm up. It was encouraging to see that the straight cresting lesson from Off-road Discovery training was not forgotten.
A short while into the warm up we arrived at a dune that was perfect for practicing a wheel centering technique, so we took the opportunity. After disposing of the side attractions, we moved on to the main event of the morning…side sloping.
It took a few attempts before our Basic trainees got a handle on the technique, but when they did eventually get it, boy did they get it. From that point on we proceeded leave our mark on every dune in sight at continuously increasing pace. Apart from a few following distance issues, the convoy looked amazing as they raced across the dune faces.
On our way out of the desert we were treated to the sight of a large herd of Oryx sheltering from the mid morning heat under newly planted trees around Crescent Moon Lake. We exited the desert driving safari style along a gravel track, leaving a large trailing dust cloud in our wake.
Thanks to the dream team, Hussam (SL) and Zoubeir (SW), for keeping a watchful eye on the convoy and the invaluable feedback.

First of all: Beautiful trip report picture!
This trip was designed to bring our trainees up to speed and it did not disappoint. Being so early in the dreaded Al Qudra area, we had the desert to ourselves.
Straight cresting is a technique which we tend to take for granted but it’s one of the most important one.
Thanks to support team for this trip and looking forward to the trainees’ progress.
