Basic Level 4
Level 4 is arguably the most anticipated trips in Desert Fellas.
Unfortunately, one Fella did not feel well and chose to step out of the trip during the safety briefing. This is appreciated as you need 100% focus and physical abilities on our trips.
The warmup brushed up on all the techniques learned so far. It was a combination of the past two weeks and leading to the first lesson of the day. The convoy was walked through bowls for the first time in their off-roading career. After practicing it one car at a time, they were tasked to repeat it in convoy order until they got a grip on the safety distance.
More big bowls were on the way and Fellas had to combine the skills learned from lesson 1 to lesson 4 to navigate through the pristine desert. The scenery was majestic today, with the sandstorm creating a gloomy yet appealing landscape. This also caused quite a lot of fresh sand deposits and the convoy had a few second tries and kinetic recoveries throughout.
After a quick break to regroup, the convoy practiced on massive slopes and did so safely, knowing when to cancel their attempt and turn towards gravity.
We exited five minutes behind schedule and a few kilometers ahead of the planned exit. Exhausted Fellas were grouped for a quick and constructive de-brief. They now have plenty in their muscle memory to ponder on until the next drive.
Thanks to Marko for the trip execution. And all Fellas for the positive learning curve. Catch you on the next one!

So, it was time for the infamous lesson 4 in basic training and it did not disappoint! I felt that us aspiring fellas got a small taste of what off road desert driving is all about, the terrain was different, the dunes were bigger and the level of focus was on another level. All of the techniques learnt since ab Inito are put to the test and when it all comes together the level of achievement and satisfaction is like no other, it demonstrates how well thought out the training is. Big thanks to our lead Marko and sweeper Zoubier for their guidance and support.
