Advanced Junior Level 2
Advanced Junior Level 2 is a milestone drive for our Advanced Juniors as it is their introduction to cresting.
After a rather lengthy and high paced warm up, the convoy regrouped for a short break followed by a theoretical lesson on cresting. Since mastering this technique takes a lot more than just theory, we took to the dunes immediately to see just how well the group had taken absorbed the lesson.
The first crest was taken slowly and repeated a few times to ensure that everyone was comfortable with the technique. It wasn’t long before the convoy progressed to higher crests at higher speed.
By the end of the drive the convoy was able to maintain a good pace over crests of varying height and and approach angle. There were still a few issues with following distance and control on crests with twists and turns, which compromised the flow of the convoy, but the next two drives should provide the group with all the practice they need to settle into the idea of driving confidently on the crests of medium sized dunes.
It was a pleasure having Marko observing and coaching our Advanced Juniors on this crucial drive. Thanks to Zoubeir (SW) and Hussam (SL) for their support on today’s drive.

This was an excellent drive with the introduction of cresting techniques. Really enjoyed the warm up and the initial slow, steady crests. I was surprised to be told to close the gap to 2-3 cars and this took some adjustment. The old farts at the front of the convoy (myself and Ray) owe them rest of the team an apology because we were the ones struggling the most but, with practice, we will conquer this. Thanks to Preggy for the detailed explanation, demonstrations and patience. Great to have General Marko swearing down the radio again! Thanks also to Hussain and Zoubeir for the advice and encouragement.
Practice makes perfect, and that could not be more true when it comes to perfecting off-road techniques. The discomfort that comes with decreased following distance is a natural response, not just for you. It takes intense focus and constant throttle adjustment which will leave you feeling mentally and physically fatigued by the end of the trip, but it’s totally satisfying when you get it right.
What a fantastic drive this was! Great to experience and learn the art of cresting. And as Martin pointed out already, the closer gap was definitely something new for all of us to learn – dropping distance from the usual 4-5 cars to 2-3 cars might sound like a very minor change, but it brings about a whole new challenge between balancing throttle control, car control and concentration. Overall I thought the entire team did an amazing job, and the after drive brief pretty much confirmed it. No one has anything to apologize for! Thanks Preggy, Hussam, Zoubeir and Marko for taking care of us. And thanks everyone else for an awesome morning!
What a morning. Great to see Marko back, along with a battlefield promotion to General from Field Marshall Martin. Most amazing 2 mins of my life was in Markos FJ where he demonstrated crest driving with one hand on the wheel. It gave me the confidence that it was a skill I could learn after making a mess of it during the morning. By the final half hour, i was getting the hang of it, so I am looking forward to next week. Thanks to Preggy, Hussam and Zoubeir for keeping us safe and giving us great feedback.
Our adv jrs were finally in for a treat! It was the trip and lesson which everyone was looking forward to.
It can certainly be intimidating at first and the mental focus required can be draining. The trainees gave it their all and implemented most of the instructions.
Looking forward to the next ones where it’s going to be practice from minute 1.
thanks for the pleasant trip team!
Zoubeir was just glad that he didn’t have to use his recovery rope😁
I was excited to see how our Advanced Juniors progressed since Junior level when I last caught up with this group on a drive and they didn’t fail to impress me, of course there are areas for improvement as shared by Preggy individually and constantly through the drive by Marko, but all in all, I felt proud of what you guys have achieved.
Thanks for the amazing company to everyone. It was great to see Marko after a while and drive under the spectatorship of his “Eagle Eyes”. Thank you Preggy and Zoubier, dream team.
This was truly a great learning drive, packed with adrenaline and fun!
I am amazed at how tremendously a few simple techniques, can improve a person’s off-road driving.
Thanks Preggy for your always calm and collected attitude in explaining things, Marko for pushing us to our potential, Zoubeir and Houssam for looking out for us and giving us helpful tips 💪🏻
As to my teammates, I think you guys drove admirably on the crests and iff them; t was a pleasure driving with ya’ll ❤️
