KILLSWITCHES ENGAGED, SPINDLES DISENGAGED

Share with your friends!

Making the most of the short break and those out of office hours this was the second off roader trip of the weekend. A light breeze greeted us at the meeting point which gave this team the optimism of some good driving conditions ahead.

The warmup initially of a bit of bowl driving quickly turned to a slower pace through a technical area but this team offroaders with their switching and cresting techniques learnt in advance training made light work of this area albeit being a bit bumpy in parts.

The area now opened up and we could see these bigger dune formations ready for us to make our tracks, building up speed we made these high climbs nudging higher at each pass however the pace came to a sudden stop when one of our fellas suffered a front spindle failure.

Stopping to assess the situation over a cup of karak it was clear that the car would need to be fixed to be recovered, luckily we had Marshall Marc on hand who could share his expert knowledge and guidance in this situation! Our fella jumped in with chef for the remainder of the drive whilst the recovery arrangements could be made allowing us to continue the drive and exit safely as a team.

Moving on and undeterred we picked up the pace for some big bowl driving fun, making our way through superbowl to iftar bowl where we made several passes with engines screaming, rev limiters pinging and kill switches engaged we left no part untouched. A short break was needed only to let the engines cool before heading to the exit ahead of schedule.

Thank you all for a fun drive and the experience, special thanks to Marshall Marc for the expert knowledge in getting us out of a tricky situation and to the support team Steven and Martin. Ray I look forward to the car being fixed possibly with some new upgrades and to seeing you back in action soon.

  1. An epic morning with amazing lines and challenges, this drive had everything! An unfortunate suspension failure for one fella but we all exited safely and the stranded vehicle was recovered in the afternoon.

Epic drive with great lines and big challenges, pity abouts Ray’s car and luckily a new spindle with reinforcement will have him up and running in no time and prevent future failures. Special thanks to the offroader community who helped make a temporary fix to get Ray’s FJ to the tarmac for recovery, helping those in the desert is one of the things that makes our sport so great.

Really enjoyed the drive in Chef Marc’s car – was able to appreciate the wonderful vistas around our drive and be able to see how well Malcom was leading the drive and our enjoyment. I was only scared once 🙄

  4. Great drive, lines, and challenges. Thanks a lot for the great drive Malcolm.
