A strong contingent of Fellas and Felicitas gathered at our meeting point as the first rays of sun illuminated Pink Rock.
With some of the convoy back on the sand for the first time after the summer, we warmed up on the smaller dunes and gradually made our way to the first major challenge; climbing high up the western slopes of Pink Rock. Even though we were the only convoy in the area, this popular landmark was crisscrossed with tracks making for a slightly bumpy ride so after a few climbs we swiftly moved on in search of untouched sand.
Panoramic views over Chef’s Bowl provided the backdrop for a break and a chance to catch up over a hot karak, accompanied by some low flying paragliders putting on a show, impressing us with their aerial acrobatics.
It was a rare treat to have this spot to ourselves for the duration of our stop. Eventually from our vantage point we could see other convoys approaching so we fired up our engines and launched the convoy into the bowl and out the other side in the direction of Badayer.
Before we reached the grande finale, we took advantage of the dunes along our route – spoilt for choice in this area, the convoy flowing beautifully and enjoying a mix of climbs and bowls both big and small.
Big Red never disappoints and today was no exception. This towering dune being familiar to everyone, we explored the rear side before making a complete lap and including several climbs up the main slope for good measure.
At the exit point we were joined by the Offroader convoy who had been driving in the same area. Inflating among the many Desert Fellas flags flying proudly was a nice way to finish off an enjoyable morning on the sand.
Thanks to everyone for a fun morning with some great company, and special appreciation for the super support today; Ray, Anders and Chef Marc for keeping us moving.
