Breakfast on the boarder
With the season changing it brings a mystique to the desert in form of fog, and on this morning the fog was exceptionally heavy.
There was a bit of delay in the morning, the right tire pressure was a bit of a challenge for one team member, he had just installed some new mods so getting it just right on his new wheels and automated deflation system took a bit of a learning curb but a few minutes later we were ready to move.
The warm up was nice and steady yet a lot of fun in the low visibility, not many convoys out in the thick fog and bowl driving in these conditions adds a new and exciting element to the drive. After a bout 30 min of driving we reached the base of Pink Rock but I’m sure a few member of the convoy could not tell where we were because we could not see much more than 20 meters in front of us.
Once we reached, it was time for breakfast and with some home made crepes and some freshly made pancake batter we got cooking while some fresh coffee and Karak tea was brewing. The pancakes, sour cream, maple syrup and fresh crepes were a big hit and buy the time the last pancake disappeared so did the the fog which meant we could not really have some fun on the dunes.
With full bellies and and fuel tanks we made the sand fly, though the ride was a bit bumpy with all the tracks in the area we managed to find some smooth dunes between Pink Rock and Big Red but of course there were not many left when we had finished leaving our own tracks. The last two hours of the drive was mostly driving with very little stopping, no second tries or stuck cars gave us the opportunity to cover some serious ground.
We were having such a good time that we spent a few minutes longer than planned to to do some extra hill climbs round Pick Rock area before we exited slightly behind schedule.
Thanks for an awesome morning with great driving from all, like well seasoned drivers you all made it look easy and seamless with great discipline and skill. Looking forward to our next outing and breakfast in the desert.
Thank you Johann for sweeper duty and for those who brought hot drinks and snacks we are all very grateful.
