Basic training 3
Lesson 3 is infamous for pop outs, challanging dunes and unforgiving technical areas.
Today’s drive had many of these elements but no pop outs though we did have some tire troubles. We had a slightly late start due to a few late arrivals but luckily not to far behind shedule though we did have two team members unable to join, 1 due to travelling and another who needed some time to rest after a doctors visit.
After a very steady warmup some longer side slopeing was practiced along with car control techniques, steering centres and climb cancellations which will be crucial for the next lesson. After the first hour there is usally a pop out in this area but today no such luck for the recovery team but we did have to exit one team mate because of a poorly installed skid plate wich left him to exposed to continue into the technical area.
After a short break with some nice tea and scones, yes scones with strawberry and clotted cream of course. We sifted to low range and tackled the tightly packed smaller dunes. Here we had multiple second tries and a kenetic recovery was needed too. One for a trainees and another for a stranded group of campers.
Just as the dunes where starting to open up we had a flat tire that needed changing and with that done speedily buy our recovery team another flat tire. At this point we were running behind shedule and the sun had set so we made our way to the exit.
- Thank for a great drive team you did very well despite all the challenges. Many thanks to recovery team Martin, Sven and Ryan for great work and support. See you all on the next lesson.

Amazing to see the development of this group. Everyone did incredibly well today through some tough terrain and challenges with Chef Marc pushing the comfort zone a bit further. I believe everyone enjoyed the drive and learnt valuable new skills and I really look forward to driving with these guys in the future.
What a great day! Some real challenging driving today which took us out of our comfort zones and we were also introduced to some useful skills that will drive us forward (no pun intended). As always, we were supported and led by a great bunch of guys.
