Basic training 1
A new generation starts with basic training and this was a fully packed class.
A bit of confusion with the meeting point this afternoon so one trainee was late and we decided to get the lesson started and meet up with her once she reached closer to the training area.
A good warm up with some easy straight cresting and side slopes to get some feeling going and work on convoy driving etiquette. The training was going well and about 30 minutes later we met up with our missing team member.
With warm up complete we made our way to some technical dunes and for many this was a new sensation of the sharp, small and densely packed dunes. It was not long when we had our first stuck and our trainees on recovery duty assessed the situation well and made a very smooth recovery. We also encountered a few second tries and self recovery before breaking through these dune to larger and more challenging terrain.
Here the pace picked up and we climbed some bigger and softer slopes. On one of these dunes we had a bit of a tricky stuck with two cars on a side slope. One was a guided self recovery and the other a kinetic rope was needed to bring the trainee to safety before moving on.
After a good two and half hours of fun and challenging drive we stopped at a lovely lake to take in the sunset and have a team debrief. Trainees did great and exceeded expectations, looking forward to see their progress over the next few weeks.
Many thanks for a great session and to our sweeper Hussam and supporting team Fouad and Martin. See you on the sand next week.

Yet another great confidence booster with a challenging yet achievable drive. The marshalls were helpful, encouraging and calm, even in tricky situations.
Stunning afternoon drive.
