Low visibility ops in force this morning! Very dense fog met us on the start of this trip full of challenges and learning points!

Fellas, remember that checking the weather forecast is part of the preparation. So you can plan at what time to leave your home in order to get to meeting point on time.

We started our warm up at 7:10 with visibility about 60-100 meters. A great challenge right there! So, the emphasis on keeping the distance constant not allowing the convoy to stretch too much.

After warm up, we moved trough a more technical area where we had several second tries a a few stucks. Hard work for our Sweeper trainee Sid!

We arrived at Pink Rock bowl at 9 AM, just by the time the fog finally dissipated. We did some exercises one at the time and after as a convoy.. after crossing to the opposite site we found a Toyota FJ that just had a rollover. We stopped our trip to help those guys.

Lots of learning points from that rollover:

NEVER fight gravity, you will LOOSE!!!

ALWAYS use seat belt!

SECURE all loose items inside your car!

FLAG is also a must!

  • It’s ALWAYS cheaper and less painful to learn with others mistakes

Marko have a master class on the recovery of this FJ that rolled over 3 times until stopping on its side. First clearing the area for safety, than he used my JEEP as an anchor using two tow straps and Khaled’s winch to turn the FJ on its tires. After that Sid had a chance to fix the tire that popped out!

After a de-briefing and reflection on the rollover we started practicing cresting. That was a big step for the Junior but they all got face the challenges in a positive way.

We left the desert at 11:00 AM and with 56km on the odometer.

Thanks Salah for the Second Lead and thanks Sid for the support in the back of the convoy.

Thanks Marko for the side sweeping and the recovery class!

Great job everyone!

    Awesome trip, thank you Tiago!

  2. It was definitely a good trip, full of challenges including the fog and the sand that it felt was still quite wet. Then, as the day passed, there were several lessons and good experiences that were left. Thanks Tiago, Marko, Salah and Sid for the support today, and thanks to the rest of the group, today you were fantastic.

  3. Wow what a colorful day it was today…
Fog, zero visibility; sweeper duties, three stucks, two simple, one complicated (had to tug twice); stranger accident and popout fixing. Not easy job being sweeper. But there is room for major improvement. Need to learn the technique the desertfella way. Thanks marko for the Sweeping tips and tiago & salah for convoy leading.

  4. Low visbility driving through the fog this morning required full focus, the sand was wet when we started but dried out by mid morning as soon as the fog cleared.
Despite the odds Thiago served up a fantastic drive – hats off to you!
Warm up was effectively quick & we ended the drive with cresting which I thoroughly enjoyed.
Follow the 60:40 rule, no brakes , control your speed on the top and tap tap tap, valuable lessons learned today.
Thanks and see you all soon.

  5. Thanks Marko and Tiago for the cresting classes today and the opportunity of exploring new challenges. Also special thanks to Zid and Salah and the rest of the offroaders today .

What an important day!! I think today each and everyone of us learnt something valuable about how to behave in the desert and how important it is to respect it. A good chance for the juniors to introduce cresting. Flawless leadership by Tiago under fierce visibility conditions, excellent effort by Sid on recovery and brilliant recovery leadership of the FJ by Marco. A truly eventful trip today. Thank you Fellas and congratulations to the upgraded lads.

What a trip! Nice driving in the fog + few stuck which we learned from & a stranger car roll over that we recovered. The route was fantastic especially the last part where we started the introduction of sitting on the dune. This was my second drive with Tiago & I love. His routes are challenging but tackled safely and professionally. Thanks to the support team, they were truly busy LOL.

Marko, I always learn from you bro. What a smooth recovery. I learned so much from that recovery. Truly glad that the first use of my winch was with you.

Tiago you gave me a note that I drive smoothly and relaxed, I learned this from watching Marko drive skill. I noticed that he always climb the dune relaxed, with good speed & momentum not too fast so I knew that I should do the same, if either me or my truck are suffering to climb it means I am doing something wrong so I must go back safely and try again in different way.

Thank you guys for the fun trip

  9. Great day out, interesting driving just to get to the meeting point never mind the challenges within the drive itself!! The rollover is just a reminder of how dangerous it can be out there when you don’t take it seriously. Good training and guidance as usual from the senior team and co and congrats to the new off roader levels

  10. Hope you guys made a video of the Roll over recovery πŸ‘πŸΌ
