Offroad Discovery

Another beautiful morning in the desert and the first Offroad Discovery of the season.

As our Discoverers started to gather around the coffee table and theory area there was a little commotion around one of the jeeps. Nestled in between the grasses of a nearby bush was a beautiful yet deadly Arabian sand viper. These snakes are part of the beautiful ecosystem and in true DesertFellas style we did not disturb her, viewed from a distance and let her get on with her hunting.

These creatures are very shy and if not threatened will not pose any danger to humans, they will rather avoid us. It was a good reminder that boots in the desert are always a good idea and why we recommend them at DesertFellas. If you ever do get bit, don’t panic, move as little as possible, call emergency services and make you way to the nearest hospital, and on our drives safety is alway top priority and even plan for these types off emergencies.

Once all the excitement was done the theory started with some coffee and Karak in hand. The morning did take  a bit longer than normal, this group had many good questions and spending a little longer to answer them in detail always pays off in the long run and to honest the time flew by.

Now with the theory part done, practical got underway. Understandably for first timers in the dunes there was some nervousness, sometimes the smallest dunes seem like mountains and that’s why we always take them on the crawl, walk, run training. With this approach everyone progresses extremely fast and by the end of the day they are actually climbing small mountains with confidence and skill.

It was a full day off-road training success and am very proud to say these discovers did amazingly well. They are now all ready to take on our Basic training course with ease and good discipline.

Many thanks to Marko and Hussam for great support and keeping the trainees safe. See you on the next one.
