Raven Sky

A very windy Saturday afternoon saw us deflating in a small sand storm for the Raven Sky drive.

One of our convoy member had headed to the wrong meeting point so the the rest of us started our warm up in a technical area close by, while he made his way to the confirmed coordinates and by the time he reached the wind had died down making the conditions much more favourable for driving.

This was planned as a Jr fun trip but as only Offroaders had signed up we upped the challenge and took full advantage of the fresh crests the wind had graced us with. We quickly left the technical area behind us and reached bigger and longer dunes making the crest surfing session extremely fun with hundreds of meters of switching and side sloping.

At a point the crests did get very sharp and our engines did run a bit hot so we switched to low range to keep up the torque and lower the revs helping keep them running cooler. Though it did help it didn’t take long for them to heat up again as the dunes got larger and the crests even sharper making us push  harder to flatten the crests. Luckily we had reached a perfect spot with a lot of shade close by for us to have a break, cool them down and hydrate our selves while the sun was starting to set in the background.

The last 30 min of the drive was much cooler and we could really enjoy the dunes toward the exit at a quicker pace to finish right on time. Thanks to Malcom and Ryan for a great way to end off a weekend adventures in the dunes. See you on the sand soon.

  1. We came (albeit a bit late), we saw…we flattened.

the winds and lack of other convoys in the area made for some great driving, thanks chef Marc and Ryan for a great drive.
