Cresting Basics – report

Share with your friends!

We met at Al Qudra today for the first lesson of cresting for our Ab Initio 3 group. Now they are all advanced juniors and we are preparing them all to become off-roaders. People showed up before the time to deflate and were ready before 4:00, which is now becoming a good habit among desert fellas (keep it up guys).

Marko explained briefly the basics of side sloping and cresting, Salouh gave the safety briefing and Rathica was given her Desert Fellas flag as she completed her equipment list. The convoy then moved with Marko in the lead, Tarek as second lead and Salah as sweeper. After a ten minute warm up, Marko cranked it up a notch or two and we started cresting right, left and center. The trip went on smoothly with everyone cresting nicely. A few second tries here and there, with two quick self recoveries, made the trip fun and fast.

On the second brake, Marko surprised us all and decided to make Salah the first lead. Salouh lead the convoy for the first time ever for about 45 minutes. He started by some side slopes and then around 10 minutes in he did his first side switch as a convoy leader.

Tarek:
You did well today as second lead. You kept the right distance from the first lead, you just need to keep the communication going between the sweeper n yourself, but overall well done!!

Aksana:
You are growing fast into becoming a great desert driver. You have more and more control over your Car with every drive.

Siddharth:
Your driving is improving with each trip. One thing though is you should not worry about pushing your car, after all it is designed for the desert. Also please, reduce the use of the radio to the minimum. Comments about the convoy should be left to the lead, second lead and the sweeper.

Rathica:
You are showing great advances with every drive. Nice self recovery today. Just a small thing, especially with big convoys like today, don’t leave too much space between you and the car in front, just keep it at 15 to 20 meters. Congrats for earning Desert Fellas flag!!!

Karim Samy:
Good job today as expected, just need some more tap-tap while on the crests.

Pradeep:
A few more cresting lessons and you will be there buddy, keep up the good work and the beautiful spirit.

Chris:
Great improvement since last time. More control over this gigantic piece of equipment you have there. Good job man.

Drew, Tiago and Amir:
You guys are off-roaders already and it is always a pleasure to have you on the sand with us.

Overall, this was a fast-paced drive where everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.

  10. The pace and terrain selection for this drive was superb. It was amazing to see how much everyone’s skill level has improved in just a few drives. You guys should all give yourselves a tap on the back.
Salouh, you rocked as lead and I’m glad that I was present on your inaugural solo run. Look forward to following you around the desert as soon as I have a car that won’t leave it bumper behind.
    Great second lead @tarekag.
As a general observation , it seemed like the radio communication could have been better. We were told that there were many second tries but didn’t hear it on the radio. Tarek can’t hold the convoy if he doesn’t know that you’re held up.
Have a safe week . See you all in the weekend.

  11. Wow! Fast paced and exhilarating drive. Driving on 4L was a challenge for the first 5 minutes but it really got me to feel the car and then just like that – it wasn’t a problem at all. Marko teaches us such great lessons on each drive that I am able to learn quickly. I’ve learned so much that getting myself into a tough spot didn’t faze me and I was able to quickly self recover. What a great lead by Salouh! Again excellent pace and mix of crests and switches. The icing on the top: I GOT MY FLAG!!!! Woop Woop šŸŽ‰
