Basic training 6

Basic training 6 was designed to hone the skills that our trainees were taught during their basic training program.

After briefing the group on the objectives of this drive, we headed off to Pink Rock. There were already two large convoys crowding the westerly slopes, so we made a detour to the slopes behind Pink rock where our convoy practiced some high climbs before arriving at Chefs bowl. Our convoy did a quick pass through Chefs bowl and proceeded to front of Pink Rock.

Our first stuck for the day came as we attempted a steep straight crest. After a short stop to brief the convoy on the correct approach to steep straight cresting, we set off to complete all the high climbs on the westerly slopes of Pink Rock.

En route to Big Red the the pace picked up and there were plenty of opportunities to practice side sloping on the small crescent shaped dunes in this area.

After treating ourselves to some high speed climbs at Big Red we proceeded to practice bowl driving on the slopes of the dune behind Big Red. This was certainly the highlight of the day. Unfortunately, two members of our convoy had to exit the drive due to one vehicle having a overheating issue and the other running low on fuel, just before the start of the serious bowl driving action.

Following distance during straight cresting is the archilles heel of this group and will have to be mastered on the next drive.

Thanks to Zoubeir (SW) and Johann (SL) for the remarkable support on this drive.

I like the pace of the drive.
Very good practice. Not the first time in this area.
    Happy to drive behind Preggy.
Thanks Zubair & Johann for the support.

  2. It was a little bit unusual to start the drive where we almost always inflated. That meant going against the dunes formation in the early stages of the trip.
Our trainees navigated the busy area nicely and made our way to Pink Rock where we drew beautiful lines.
The straight cresting part proved to be a little bit tricky but with practice, this bunch will nail it. The last part of the drive was where things heated up. It was all but too late. Nevertheless, it was positive. Hopefully our two Fellas will sort out their cars and together we will smash this area again.
    See you on Wednesday!
