Basic training 3

With the sun rising over an overcast sky all Fellas were early at the meeting point for Basic training 3.

All of us set our radios to frequency and moved towards deflation point where we prepared our rigs and presented the plan of the day with saftey briefing.

Now that everyone was ready, warm up commenced swiftly with a lot of straight crests on some smaller dunes increasing level slowly.  Now in a flatter area our first lesson was conducted, here our Fellas were introduced to our signature technique to gain more control from our vehicles, a lesson that will be useful for many off road miles to come. It didn’t take long for Fellas to get the feeling for it and also gave us the chance to fix a pop out inbetween.

With convoy well and truly warmed up we enjoyed some nice side slopes before we conducted a lesson on hill climbs focused on saftey procedures for cancellation. After many repetitions all Fellas had more confidence to pick up the pace.

A few minutes later we entered the infamous technical dunes of Al Faqqa, using our low range gears, we were able to maneuver inbetween these tightly packed smaller dunes and powdery soft sands. Along the way we had a few second tries but no stuck and halfway through we conducted a fun exercise on step up challenge.

After 2.5 hours the dune started to really open up and this is was where we changed back into high range and started flying. The wind had really picked up at this point and Fellas looked like speed boats sailing in the waves, everything was coming together and this convoy was showing close to perfect DF convoy driving the last 30 min to the exit finishing on time.

Congratulations Fellas, today you took in a lot of info and are definitely not the same drivers that started this morning.

Thatk you for the support this morning from Marko and Zoubeir. See you Fellas on the next one.

Basic training 3 was an interesting day. Our start was practicing throttle control doing donuts and later apply the same to turn on the slope of a dune. It seemed all easy, until we had to do it in practice. It takes a while to get this sort of right and required some patience. Thanks for having said patience with me.

Then into some more technical areas which was very nice. The occasional getting stuck was a sign that we pushed ourselves and don’t rest on what we already confident doing.

Jumping onto the dune with precise throttle control like Marko asked us to do was quite challenging and I didn’t manage to do it as good as asked, but practice will help to get there.

A big thanks for Chef Marc, Marko and Zoubeir to guide on through the basic lessons.
