Junior level 3

Junior level 3 drive is always a game changer!

In this new area comes new challenges and lessons on our signature techniques that gives Desert Fellas a better understanding on what car controll feels like and how it helps them become better drivers.

We started on time but for this time of year its a bit late, temperature is rising fast. Before the saftey briefing was even done one Fella had to exit the desert due to some car problems, hope he can get it sortes for the next drive.

Once briefing was complete, warm up started with a bit quicker progression so we did have a few second tries and a pop out early in the drive. With these out the way some lessons and technique training got underway, l can tell the convoy could feel the difference and it came in handy later in the drive.

Javier took the convoy through the technical area giving me the opportunity to do some recoveries and self recoveries before the bigger dunes. At this point convoy was a bit tiered so we switched to high rage and picked up the pace.

Unfortunately before the drive ended we had a tyer puncture  and a few cars had over heating issues, Javier had to escort one more members to the exit. While the rest of us really pushed the limits to practice the new techniques and lessons.

Convoy exited 15 min behind shedule but in high spirits, many of them fixed a lot of development points and some had new ones to work on. In genaral they performed very well but Radio comunications could improve all round.

Thank you Javier and Victor for the support, see you all on the sand soon.

Since you own an FJ…you changed !! 🤪

  2. Totally gutted to have missed this drive but my car definitely wasn’t right and the sensible thing was to retire. Sounds like today was another learning curve so I’ll have to be on top form next week to catch up.

I hope this was nothing serious and you will be back on track next week 😉

      1. I think it’s the custom tune which is limiting fuel. It’s almost like it is de-tuned for economy – the total opposite of what I ordered!! Being sorted now.

    Whoa!!!
What a drive! A mixture of great learning and loads of fun 😀
The drive started off at a pretty brisk pace; chef Marc was not taking any prisoners, and the adrenalin was running very early on in the drive!
What can I say, Marc, Javier and Victor were awesome at supporting us and instructing to become better off-roaders. The leads gave detailed instructions about the trail condition, how to maneuver, and what to expect every steps of the way or the “dune” 😀
My biggest and best learning today was the “tap tap” technique 😀 Even though I’m far from mastering it, I quickly realized its importance, first in controlling my car, and second in building impressive momentum when I need it. Today, I also loved doing doughnuts in the desert, and I discovered that I quite enjoy the technical areas of the desert (they used to unnerve me).
The team did fantastically well and I can see how we’ve all come a long way from AI 15 😀
I hope you all have a great rest of the week; personally, I’m tap tapping my way all the way till next Friday morning! See ya’ll on the sand next Friday.
